As you continue your journey down the page, you will step next into the organic forms of my monumental entry sculpture, permanently installed at the Topanga Public Library in Topanga California, a beautiful little mountain town that sits between Santa Monica and Malibu.

The Flowering of Ancient Mankind’s Gift of Writing: A Legacy to All of Us.

Topanga Public Library: This sculpture celebrates the advent of libraries as a turning point in the history of written language. The tile surface hearkens back to cuneiform—the earliest form of writing, where marks were pressed into soft clay. Once baked, these tiles became permanent records stored in the world’s first ancient libraries. Below, you can step closer into the detailed carvings, textures, and other elements woven into the vision.

Dragonflies have wonderful eyes enabling them to see in front, behind, above and below at the same time. This resonated with me to incorporate them into the composition, being that libraries also serve to give us a 360 degree view of the world we live in.

‘ VAN GOGH IN STEEL ‘ : This 14 ft X 8 ft. Steel Gate appeared at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam Holland in a large blown up photo to greet visitors to its 2019 show called “ Van Gogh and the Sunflowers” The photos in the entrance lobby were to show how Vincent’s Art work had influenced artists who came after him.

I designed this gate as a proposal to Sam Elliott and his wife Katherine Ross who both loved it and commissioned me to make it. It was a great honor when years later the Van Gogh museum saw a picture of it online and invited me to let them create and display a large photo of it at the museum. The Gallery below shows detail shots of the elements and a picture of the left side of the gate in my outdoor studio in Topanga California as I was creating it.
